Why are people upset about Trump’s Executive Order that bans travel for people from certain Muslim countries?


Obama did not ever place a ban on travel. He increased the vigor of the visa and refugee application process which slowed the flow of travel, but did not ban it.
Trump (or Bannon) chose the countries included in this executive order. Neither Congress nor the Obama Administration helped craft this order. They created a list of countries that should have stringent vetting, not whose people should be barred from our country. Just because there was already a list intended for x doesn’t mean Trump didn’t choose it for y.
Nobody of relevance to the issue at hand (ie. terrorism) helped in crafting this bill. If we’re worried about security, shouldn’t there be input from the Dept. of Homeland Security? In fact several former security officials have voiced their opinions against this bill, because of the damage it does to our relationships with local governments and moderate muslims in these regions. Without them, it gets a lot harder to fight an ideological war.
You misunderstand why people are refugees. There are more refugees from war-torn regions and less from healthier nations because a refugee is someone trying to flee from war/persecution of which they are innocent. You are categorizing refugees as people who pose a threat to our country. The process of entering the US as a refugee is incredibly difficult (made even moreso by Obama), and has resulted in the deaths of 0 Americans.
3 months is meaningless. If it were a week it would still be bad. All this ban does is satisfy the population in our country who voted for Trump on the basis of his promise create this Muslim ban (and it is a Muslim ban because he has called it that on multiple occassions).
The only reason the ban would make sense would be if Trump had discovered a flaw in the visa/refugee process and there was evidence that it posed a major threat to our country. Even then, if he knew the flaw, he could have just created an executive order fixing it. But Trump doesn’t know any flaw, because the system has improved and has not failed us as of late.
Plus he declared it on Holocaust Remembrance Day, what a jerk.
